Long-legged Waders

© Mitch Heindel, 2005
Long-legged Waders are those birds with long legs
(& usually necks) often seen wading near waters
edge. They are largely fish eaters, as evidenced
by their long dagger shaped bills.
Their necks can contract and expand tremendously,
and faster than the eye can follow, when striking
prey. KMHRP is a great place to see them well,
with many types usually present. They include
Herons, Egrets, Bitterns, and Ibis.
