Crimson Patch (Chlosyne janais) aka the crimson wonder
Crimson Patch caterpillar on Flame Acanthus (the larval foodplant) at the library garden.
Theona Checkerspot (Thessalia theona)
Theona Checkerspot can be quite variable above.
Vesta Crescent (Phyciodes vesta) is our most common crescent.
Bordered Patch (Chlosyne lacinia) is very variable.
There is a pic of a western dark form below. This
one is very orange, often the color band is more yellow.
Here is a Texan Crescent we saw at the park in
late January, 2017, probably my first ever in Jan., and
obviously a mint fresh individual.
This Texan Crescent (Phyciodes texana) is missing a piece of wing.
This is a Phaon Crescent (Phyciodes phaon), which can be common.
There is a nearly colorless rare winter morph (see pic below).
A black and white (rare, winter) form of the Phaon Crescent
(Phyciodes phaon) at Utopia on December 1, 2012.
This is the only one of these I have seen.
Thanks for ID confirmation by Charles Bordelon.

This form of this subspecies is rare east of the Pecos River.
Thanks to Charles Bordelon for confirmation and info.
